One of my goals this year has been to spend more quality time with the kids and reading is one of the things Abbie and I both love!

This week we have read a few great books, one of which is written and illustrated by Melanie Walsh. Trick Or Treat is a fun BOARD Book with flaps to peek under.

Simple fun sentences make this a great book for your new reader to read to you for bedtime !

The recent heat wave here in my valley has created havoc for my children’s sleep routines and moods. Everything has been turned upside down from keeping up on laundry to getting kids to sleep at night. Needless to say I have been thinking I better fix this before school starts (and I am looking forward to school starting ;)

This morning found me up an hour early and my day seems off to a great start. While getting caught up with some emails I stumbled across a great little contest I though I wold share.

Yesterday my copy of The Clutter Diet: The Skinny on Organizing Your Home and Taking Control of Your Life arrived in the mail ! Over the next few weeks I will be sharing some of my thoughts as I work through the book and better YET – YOU could win a copy over the next few weeks!

My excitement was evident and my son was quickly caught up in it as we opened the parcel. Upon opening the parcel, he was a bit disappointed to learn that the book was “about cleaning his room”. He perked up when I asked him to be my model though.

So just how do you win a copy of Lorie Marrero’s book The Clutter Diet: The Skinny on Organizing Your Home and Taking Control of Your Life?

The contest starts Saturday February 28th and runs through to March 14th 2009. (Hopefully this will be enough time for me to get through the book and share my favourite sections with you.)

Holiday Shopping and contests

Here are some tips from the Almost Always Organized Mom to help keep your organized and your budget under control as you complete your Holiday Shopping:

1) Know your budget. Sit down with your budget and determine how many gifts you need to purchase. Consider our current economy and avoid damage control next year by knowing your budget ahead of time.

2) Think outside the store. Hand made gifts, cards, poems, gift cards, home videos are all great affordable gifts that also encourage family participation.

3) Avoid the Lines. Shop during the week and early morning if possible to avoid the long lines on the weekend and evenings. Better yet shop online. There are GREAT deals at Etsy.com

4) How to wrap the BIG gifts. Stop by your local dollar store and purchase those BIG table clothes in red and green. Use some ribbon and voila big Christmas gift is wrapped !

5) Gift wrap central. Consider setting up a temporary holiday gift-wrap station. Include all the needed items to complete all your wrapping. I also personally use a different wrap for each child (so I know who the gifts are for but they don’t until I ad the tags on Christmas eve.

How do you organize your photos

I am on a new quest. You could say my photos are organized. All loose photos are in a photo box indexed by child with the intention of starting a scrapbook for each child. All the photos I printed over the last 3 years are either A) in a frame or B) in a drawer that only contains photos.

So this week I am going to head to the dollar store for some new photo boxes and if I don’t win this great contest below I am going to buy 3 scrap books to get started on those books that I have a deadline to finish of December 24th 2008.

Of course once I start scrap booking then I will have the new concern of how I am going to keep all those scrap book items organized !

Throw away Thursday – socks you have them the machine eats them

With 12 minutes to spare (thank goodness for Pacific Standard Time), I am posting Throw away Thursday.
I firmly not only believe but have proven to myself that keeping LESS stuff saves me time and my sanity. So every Thursday (maybe you can complete this on Friday ;) I challenge you to join my by throwing out something you really really don’t need. Of course if you can recycle that would be a better option, or if what you don’t need can be donated then by all means that would be a better route as well. So my challange for you is to join me by getting rid of those socks your washing machine didn’t want to eat.You know the OTHER sock. The one with a pink ballerina who has no dance partner ? Or maybe its just a box that has sat next to the washer for how many months ?. Just do it. Really you will feel good when you next do laundry.

A tip – train your children (your future daughter in law will love you ) to take their socks off , fold the tops and put them in the laundry. Keeping them in the same load next time around.

I am a mother of three children – My middle son the “SPY” wanted to share the top secret desk of the Organized Mom …

Yes I have successfully not only infiltrated moms office but taken Michelle’s camera as well. A spy in the making – Peace everyone. D you think she will know its me ? Wait is this thing working ? FLASH CLICK Oops busted

Yes I am the Organized Mom. Well I was the professional nanny who kept other moms organized then I had three children of my own ;) My skills are goal setting, planning, time management, marketing and advertising. I work in advertising for an online company to pay the bills and have recently turned my website OrganizedFamilies.com into a BLOG website. The official launch isn’t until April 1st 2008.

I have a few printable dayplanners I have designed and on occasion I help other families (with no fee) to get a system in place to help the stay organized and keep their schedules together. I also volunteer on my children’s PAC, and as a family advocate in my community.
